Lido Beach Painting Progress Update

Hello Everyone!
Hope you've had a great summer. My summer was busy, but nice. Just not ready for summer to come to an end yet. And this painting reminds me of those fantastic days at the beach. The sea air, the salt on the tongue, my feet in the sand, the sea breeze off of the Gulf. It's all good. Even a bad day at the beach is a good day, right?
Okay, I'll get on with it. Here's an updated view of my latest Lido Beach painting. Made some changes to the sea oats, wanted to show off more of the powdery white sand. To see the hills of sand that meet the grass are important by trying to convey the volume as much as possible. Trying to get volume with white? Yikes. But it is possible with different shades of white and gray for shadows. Adding brush strokes that give texture and the direction of the sand's movement helps. And of course, I want you to feel the wonderful solitude. What a great natural place to retreat.

Lido Beach Painting In Progress

Hello Everyone!
Wanted to update my blog by sharing with you a new painting I have in progress. I normally love to work on large canvas with large brushes, yet I decided to create a small landscape 5" x 7" of Lido Beach, FL. One of my favorite beaches. Lido is fairly naturalized and not so commercialized and who can not fall in love with that gorgeous white sand? This painting is done in oils, my favorite. I recently made the change back to oils from acrylics. I missed how the oil paint just glides across the canvas. Nothing feels like it's being held back by a dried section on the canvas. Oh, and the blending? Yes, I just love how I can blend colors so easily right there on the canvas. Artist Melody Lea Lamb art approved by Apple for iPhone

Hello Everyone!
Exciting news here to share! A fellow artist, I should say a very hard-working successful one, Melody Lea Lamb's miniature paintings of her adorable creatures have been approved by Apple for iPhones with over 600 downloads to choose! I'm delighted about Melody's latest endeavor with Apple. Truly amazing how one's art can grow into areas you never imagined. From miniature ACEO's to iPhone apps, that's the journey of Melody's art. I wanted to share this news right after soon as I heard, because it's a great example of where your art can take you. Here's what Melody has to say about this endeavor and how the idea was born:


About a month ago I was invited to lunch by my new Twitter friend,
Dave Carpenter, who also lives in the beautiful Berkshires of Massachusetts.
Over lunch Dave and I were talking about my art
(which is predominately ACEOs-miniatures 3.5” x 2.5”).
Suddenly his eyes lit up and he said, “an iPhone app!”
Of course, these little paintings would be just perfect for viewing
on an iPhone. So I hurried home and contacted my brother,
Matthew Revenaugh, who is a computer programmer (TheSoftWareMan),
and before we knew it, a great little iPhone App was born.

Charleston, SC Painting In Progress

Here's the latest details adding to the canvas after blocking it in. So still have more work to do on the palm trees, sidewalk, and cobblestone road. If I may, has a little Edward Hopper look to it. I'll show the final canvas when complete. Hope you enjoy the view or memories of Charleston, SC!

New Abstract Still Wet On The Easel

Here's another abstract still wet on the easel. Working on it in between the drying times for the Charleston painting. Gives me something totally different to do. Photograph this one tonight, so lighting wasn't the best for photography purposes, but you get the idea!

What's On My Easel?

This is it! My latest painting in progress. Presently, this canvas is in it's "blocking in" stage. Can you see anything familiar about it? Yes, it's one of our lovely and most popular cities of the South, Charleston, SC. The Low Country, love it! I have many wonderful memories in this city and it's wide, sunny beaches. My dear husband took this photo and I have to say, he did a really fine job! While on vacation we found every historical home, iron gate, and stone is photographer's dream.

Just tried out a new gesso by Matisse

Hello!
Today I'm reporting on my new experience with Matisse's Black Gesso. I really like it. It's very thick, which can be watered down. However, if working on an abstract painting, applying extra gesso with a palette knife will give you extra texture without having to add paint! So it's more cost effective to do so. You won't have to use more expensive high body mediums to give you the textures you desire. I'll post a photo with final painting using the black gesso once completed.

DECEMBER IS HERE! Looks like a few interesting art auction events are coming up! I was very excited to hear that the NY Gallery that  held an art auction event in November will be hosting a new 8 day Pre-Christmas event on Dec.11th on Twitter, 92 hours to bid on international art!
