Lido Beach Painting In Progress

Hello Everyone!
Wanted to update my blog by sharing with you a new painting I have in progress. I normally love to work on large canvas with large brushes, yet I decided to create a small landscape 5" x 7" of Lido Beach, FL. One of my favorite beaches. Lido is fairly naturalized and not so commercialized and who can not fall in love with that gorgeous white sand? This painting is done in oils, my favorite. I recently made the change back to oils from acrylics. I missed how the oil paint just glides across the canvas. Nothing feels like it's being held back by a dried section on the canvas. Oh, and the blending? Yes, I just love how I can blend colors so easily right there on the canvas. Well, not to get carried away or anything, but do want to thank you for visiting my blog and  hope you enjoy what you see. Please return for the finished painting.

Artist Melody Lea Lamb art approved by Apple for iPhone

Hello Everyone!
Exciting news here to share! A fellow artist, I should say a very hard-working successful one, Melody Lea Lamb's miniature paintings of her adorable creatures have been approved by Apple for iPhones with over 600 downloads to choose! I'm delighted about Melody's latest endeavor with Apple. Truly amazing how one's art can grow into areas you never imagined. From miniature ACEO's to iPhone apps, that's the journey of Melody's art. I wanted to share this news right after soon as I heard, because it's a great example of where your art can take you. Here's what Melody has to say about this endeavor and how the idea was born:

About a month ago I was invited to lunch by my new Twitter friend,
Dave Carpenter, who also lives in the beautiful Berkshires of Massachusetts.
Over lunch Dave and I were talking about my art
(which is predominately ACEOs-miniatures 3.5” x 2.5”).
Suddenly his eyes lit up and he said, “an iPhone app!”
Of course, these little paintings would be just perfect for viewing
on an iPhone. So I hurried home and contacted my brother,
Matthew Revenaugh, who is a computer programmer (TheSoftWareMan),
and before we knew it, a great little iPhone App was born.
A revolving pocket gallery of my miniature paintings that will change weekly!
Now your favorite ACEO's can travel with you,
a quick pick me up as you navigate your day!
If you want to preview the App., or you don’t have an iPhone,
you can view it in the Safari browser, just remember to scale down
your page to about the size of an iPhone. In FireFox you can use
this iPhone Simulator. Add the App link to the mock iPhone and
hit enter, although it will not look its best in this browser.
Can not  be previewed in Internet Explorer.
Enjoy! Melody Lea Lamb

P.S. Even more interesting fact about Melody's new Mini's iPhone apps: They have reached the #20 most popular spot out of  4334 apps in the first week!  hed the #20 most popular spot out of 4334 apps in the first week!

Charleston, SC Painting In Progress

Here's the latest details adding to the canvas after blocking it in. So still have more work to do on the palm trees, sidewalk, and cobblestone road. If I may, has a little Edward Hopper look to it. I'll show the final canvas when complete. Hope you enjoy the view or memories of Charleston, SC!

New Abstract Still Wet On The Easel

Here's another abstract still wet on the easel. Working on it in between the drying times for the Charleston painting. Gives me something totally different to do. Photograph this one tonight, so lighting wasn't the best for photography purposes, but you get the idea!

What's On My Easel?

This is it! My latest painting in progress. Presently, this canvas is in it's "blocking in" stage. Can you see anything familiar about it? Yes, it's one of our lovely and most popular cities of the South, Charleston, SC. The Low Country, love it! I have many wonderful memories in this city and it's wide, sunny beaches. My dear husband took this photo and I have to say, he did a really fine job! While on vacation we found every historical home, iron gate, and stone is photographer's dream.

Just tried out a new gesso by Matisse

Hello!
Today I'm reporting on my new experience with Matisse's Black Gesso. I really like it. It's very thick, which can be watered down. However, if working on an abstract painting, applying extra gesso with a palette knife will give you extra texture without having to add paint! So it's more cost effective to do so. You won't have to use more expensive high body mediums to give you the textures you desire. I'll post a photo with final painting using the black gesso once completed.
Here's a great video on Matisse's gessos:

"The Barn Window" - Finished!

"The Barn Window"
28" x 22"
Oil
Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Bazemore

Since the early 2000’s, most of my work has involved the creation of conceptually based abstract paintings demonstrating the strong impact of color and movement, however recently I have been painting common themes of realism. In my most recent painting, “The Barn Window”, I deconstruct the American Midwestern late 1800’s red barn down to a single weathered window. This darkened glass window with little reflection tries to show off the agricultural life it was so once proud to reflect. Not only does the window reflect the years of hard farm life, Midwest winters, but with time the inevitable; abandonment. In the painting, textured layers of red and white paint peel away to reveal a rawness to the wood that has become covered in moss and takes on a new life of it’s own. In the top panes, you can see the grain silo that is presently still in use nearby.

As with most Americans, there is a underlying sadness as we see the days of family farms sold for various reasons due to outstanding loans, housing developments or for another unnecessary strip mall. In fact, the red barn which is part of a family farm in Indiana has been sold and has recently been torn down due to it’s condition. All that is left is a photograph taken by a young woman named Tami Reece, whom at the young age of 33, passed away from cancer. I desire to honor Tami and her photograph with a painting titled, “The Barn Window”.

Observations

Good Day! Here's another edition to my creative exercises on paper, "Observations". I really love this piece, it has an Ocea...
